Women in the Security Industry – Progress through Initiative

Pursuing a career in the security industry is a dream for many people. For some, this dream quickly becomes a reality, thanks to numerous opportunities and social structures. For many, however, especially women, this goal remains unfulfilled. Why is this so?

The profession of a security specialist can generally be practised by all genders and age groups. Nevertheless, the proportion of women in the industry remains low. The reason for this is the widespread perception that the job of a security specialist is „traditionally male“. Uniforms, gun licenses, and the physically demanding nature of the job are defined as classically masculine and also deter many female applicants. But this doesn't always have to be the case!

Countless campaigns and institutions such as the Berlin-based company Shecurity Berlin counteract this stigmatisation in the workplace. Since 2025, the company has consistently worked on supporting the growing market and the steady demand for female security guards. Especially in areas such as the club scene or facilities specifically dedicated to protecting people, such as women's shelters, women are increasingly sought to fill these positions.

The modern security market in particular focuses on the balancing aspect of protection and therefore sees women as an enormous advantage due to their more pronounced emotional and social skills, in contrast to their male colleagues. Women are generally stronger in conflict resolution competencies, which not only contribute to effective violence reduction but also guarantee a pleasant atmosphere and successfully executed events.

„Targeted promotion of women in the security sector creates diverse teams that work more sensitively, empathetically, and often with more de-escalation. This not only improves the quality of security services but also promotes equality and trust in public spaces.“
